GHANA PROCLAIMS "YEAR OF RETURN 2019" AS PART OF THE 400 YEAR AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY COMMEMORATION

On September 28, 2018, His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana, launched the “Year of Return 2019” inviting all peoples of African Descent to come to visit Ghana in joining the celebration of the 400 years. 

The Government of Ghana in manifesting its commitment to the Diaspora, set up a Diaspora Affairs Office in the Office of the President to provide a reliable link between the Diaspora and the various National Government agencies.

In the year 2000, Ghana passed a law on the “Right of Abode”, which allows a person of African descent to apply and be granted the right to stay in Ghana indefinitely.
